LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation Selects 2018 Scholarship Recipients

Marlton, NJ, June 1, 2018 – The LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation is proud to announce the selection of London Holmes and Angelo Cervantes as the 2018 scholarship recipients. London Holmes attends Sammamish High School in Bellevue, WA where she is a member of the National Honor Society. She is active in Civil Air Patrol, Red Tailed Hawks and the Museum of Flight. London is eager to devote her summer break to flight training and one day hopes to become a United States Air Force pilot.  Angelo Cervantes is a class of 2018 high school graduate, from Mountain Valley Academy, Ramona, CA. Angelo has been working to earn his sailplane certification and plans to attend Arizona State University this fall in the Professional Flight program. Angelo will complete his private pilot certification this summer.

“This is always an exciting time of year when we select our recipients”, says Melodie Homer, founder and president of the organization. “We look forward to following London and Angelo as they begin their aviation careers.”

The LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation was created in memory of LeRoy Homer, First Officer on board United #93, who along with Captain Jason Dahl fought against the hijackers who had planned to fly the aircraft into the US Capitol. The foundation’s mission is to encourage and support young adults who wish to pursue aviation as a professional career.

“The continued support of the LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation by the friends, families and fellow employees touched by the events of September 11, 2001 help us continue this legacy”, remarked Captain Brian Florence, Vice President, Aviation Community Development. “London and Angelo are our twentieth and twenty-first scholarship recipients and we congratulate them joining our continuing tribute to the man we remember and honor.”
